Echo Pilot: Surprise drop of new single “Gonna be” tugs at heartstrings

Nashville, TN — 2/21/25

Alternative rock band Echo Pilot has dropped yet another single in advance of their anticipated sophomore album, Notion, set to release on February 28.

“Gonna Be” surprises fans, showcasing a softer side of the alt-rock and pop-rock group. Originally written in 2022 and recorded in 2024, “Gonna Be” is an affirmation of perseverance and a heartfelt ballad that explores the enduring power of love and commitment.

“I was going through a really hard time in my life when I wrote it. Every day seemed like the biggest struggle and it was hard to see a way out. One way was through this song,” recalls Ryan Van Abeele, the band’s frontman. “You have to get up and at it to achieve what you want. Even when every day is a struggle, if you keep going, you can trust what’s on the other side.”

“Gonna Be” is a love song to the self and loved ones. While a little calmer than what we’ve heard so far from the group, the dynamics swell at just the right momentum to categorize this tune as distinctively Echo Pilot. A melodic soft rock tune with sparkly choruses makes you feel like you can achieve anything. This tender yet powerful departure from the band’s high-energy roots showcases their versatility and emotional depth.

The song is a perfect segue to their upcoming album release, Notion, out in just one week. The themes continue from personal strength through deeply emotional struggles.

To celebrate the release, Echo Pilot will play a special release show in their Nashville home base. Fans can expect an electrifying live show that brings the new album to life alongside fan favorites.

“This album is exactly what I hoped it would be—the band’s sound is totally definable, but not limited to one space,” says bassist Andrew Stuart Howsmon. “Tracks like ‘Gonna Be’ were just so exciting to me because I knew they’d be the biggest surprise. I hope everyone enjoys listening as much as we enjoyed working on this.”

Echo Pilot is Ryan Van Abeele (Vocals/Guitar), Aaron Smith (Guitar), Andrew Stuart Howsmon (Bass/Backing Vocals), and Dan Russell (Drums), a Nashville-based alt-rock band that has been making waves since their formation in 2018.
